Why Choose Carpet Flooring for Your Home?

Warm underfoot, quiet, and cozy, carpet changes the feel of any room and is especially good in bedrooms, living areas, and staircases.

Warm, soft flooring that creates cozy living spaces

There is nothing like the soft, cushioned feel of carpet. Its warmth and noise reduction make it ideal for bedrooms, family rooms, and anywhere you want to create a cozy space.

Excellent thermal insulation and energy efficiency

With its cushioning padding and soft pile, carpet adds significant insulation to any room. This reduces heat loss through the floor and lowers energy costs as a result, and keeps rooms feeling warmer even in winter.

Superior sound absorption and acoustic noise reduction

Carpet is great for creating quieter spaces too, both absorbing airborne sounds and almost eliminating impact sounds that you might get from hard floors. That means reduced echo, less footfall noise, and quieter spaces.

Non-slip safety for children, the elderly, and stairways

For stairs, playrooms, and in general for children and the elderly, carpet offers a soft, textured surface that reduces the risk of slipping and provides a cushioned surface that is more forgiving than hard flooring.

Our Professional Carpet Installation Process

We take you from bare floor to comfortable, cozy carpet in just six steps.

01

Free in-home consultation and precise measurement

Our home visit includes a full consultation on the type and style of carpet you want, along with a precision measurement process for minimum seams and perfect fitment.

02

Subfloor cleaning, inspection, and moisture assessment

We inspect your existing subfloor for condition, moisture levels, and levelness. Any issues that need rectifying are addressed here, prior to carpet fitting, to ensure a quality install.

03

Perimeter track strip installation and high-density padding layer

Tack strips are fastened around the perimeter of the room, then high-density carpet padding is installed for support, insulation, and comfort.

04

Custom cutting and precision seam bonding

Your chosen carpet is cut to room size in a way that minimizes seam visibility. Each seam is heat-bonded for seamless joints.

05

Power stretching for wrinkle-free, perfect fitment

We use power stretchers during installation, offering improved stretch in the carpet over traditional knee kickers and ensuring a taught, wrinkle-free finish to the carpet.

06

Edge tucking, transition installation, and final inspection

All carpet edges are tucked behind the tack strips for a neat, seamless finish; thresholds are installed at transitions and doorways. Final vacuum and inspection complete the install.

Where Carpet Flooring Works Best

The comfort, warmth, and sound absorption of carpet make it a great choice for bedrooms, family rooms, stairs, and basement living.

Bedrooms and Nurseries

Quiet underfoot, soft on bare skin, and beautifully warm, carpet is the ideal choice for bedrooms and nurseries.

Living Rooms and Family Rooms

Carpet helps soften echoes and provides a soft, complementary anchor to cushioned seating, creating a cozy space for enjoying life.

Stairs and Hallways

Sound dampening that avoids the harshness of hard floors, while also providing additional grip that improves safety.

Home Theaters and Basements

Helps with acoustic control in echoey basements and sound-sculpted cinema rooms, with the soft warmth adding to the relaxing atmosphere.

Cost Factors in Carpet Installation

Carpet offers tremendous value, but here’s what drives pricing, and why cost transparency is so important. We always put scope of work, timeline, and pricing in writing before work commences.

Square Footage and Room Count

The larger the area, the less per square foot it costs thanks to labor efficiencies. Small rooms, stairs, and hallways need more seamwork, adding to the costs.

Carpet Grade and Fiber Type

Budget-friendly options include polyester and olefin, with nylon a mid-range choice and wool offering a true luxury alternative with costs to match. Pile height and density impact material costs even within the same fiber type.

Subfloor Preparation and Removal

Any old carpet is removed, previous padding is also taken away, and a subfloor inspection is carried out. Stain removal or repair of the subfloor will be advised where applicable, with separate quotes for the work provided.

Seaming and Pattern Matching

Large rooms require seams, with all labor included in the quote. Pattern matching may incur additional costs. Directional patterns often require significant planning and additional materials.

Padding Quality and Installation

Padding is not just for your comfort; it extends the life of the carpet itself and improves sound absorption. Premium cushion adds costs, but also extends carpet lifespan, presenting long-term value benefits.

Stairs, Transitions and Finishing

For most installations, stair wrapping, transitions, and edge finishing are included in the price. Complex transitions may require additional materials and subsequently, extra costs.

Project Timeline and What To Expect

We proceed with each project in defined phases, taking you from first inspection to final walkthrough. Knowing how this works makes planning your home much easier.

Consultation and Measurement

Our home visit includes a consultation on style and type of carpet, your budget, a detailed measurement of the rooms, and finally an assessment of the subfloor condition.

Carpet Selection and Samples

We offer an extensive range of carpet styles, textures, pile types, and colors. We can provide samples of your chosen carpets for easy comparison at home, and will offer guidance on durability and other factors.

Old Carpet Removal and Prep

We remove the old carpet and padding, then clean the subfloor, ready for inspection. If we find damage or stains that may impact the new carpet, we address them at this point.

Seaming and Layout Planning

We plan the carpet layout to minimize seams, and then cut, sew, and seal each seam for durability. In the case of directional patterns, all cuts are carefully matched.

Carpet Installation

We lay new padding, then stretch the carpet using professional equipment. Seams are finished for minimal visibility, and transitions to other flooring are completed.

Finishing and Walkthrough

Edges are trimmed and secured, carpet is vacuumed, and the space is cleared. A final walkthrough catches any issues and rectifies them for your complete satisfaction.

Frequently Asked Questions About Carpet Installation

The simple answers to the most popular questions we get asked about carpet installation.

How long does new carpet need to acclimate before installation?

In most cases, your carpet will need minimal acclimation, especially compared to hard flooring options. In general, 24 hours at room temperature is enough, but we always follow the manufacturer's instructions for this and always install with the room at its normal temperature.

Will carpet seams be visible after installation?

We use heat-bonded seaming to minimize visibility and maximize the strength of any seam. We plan the layout to refine seam placement to further reduce potential visibility too. As a result, while seams can never be entirely invisible, you won’t notice them without looking hard for them.

How do you handle carpet transitions to hardwood, tile, or vinyl in doorways?

We use metal bar transitions, reducers, or carpet-to-hard-floor threshold strips, together known as transition strips, for any joint, as required. These deal with any height differences while sealing the carpet edge to prevent damage and wear.

How long after carpet installation can I move furniture back into the room?

Most carpets can handle light foot traffic straight after installation, but for heavy items such as furniture, we always recommend waiting 24 hours where possible, giving the carpet time to fully settle.

How do I eliminate the “new carpet smell” after installation?

New carpets off-gas post-installation, and that is completely normal. It usually stops within 72 hours, and often a lot faster. You can keep windows open and run your HVAC during this period to dissipate the smell, while vacuuming the new carpet after installation can also help. These types of VOC emissions from carpets are very low, though, and do not present any kind of hazard.

What is carpet padding density, and why is choosing the right pad important?

We measure padding density in pounds per cubic foot, and it is usually in the range of 3 to 8 lb for residential applications. In practice, higher-density padding offers more support for your chosen carpet and increases sound-deadening properties, not only improving underfoot comfort but also lengthening the carpet’s lifespan.

Why is power stretching necessary instead of knee kickers alone?

A knee kicker cannot provide the force required to properly tension a carpet across a room, and that can lead to wrinkles and lifting. A power stretcher offers much higher, controlled force for the full width of the room, so that it is tightly stretched when hooked to the tack strips to ensure a smooth finish.

What is the best carpet fiber for high-traffic areas and homes with pets?

Nylon is the best option for high-traffic areas, providing better crushing resistance than other fibers, making it more wear-resistant. For pets, triextra, also known as SmartStrand, is a great option, being both stain- and moisture-resistant. For pets, always avoid any loop pile carpets, as claws can snag and quickly pull loops, destroying the finish.

Can carpet be installed over concrete basements or uneven subfloors?

Yes, it can, as long as proper preparation is carried out. The concrete must be clean, dry, and any cracks or high spots remedied first. Moisture testing is essential to avoid mold growth.

How much extra material is required for a patterned carpet or mismatched roll widths?

Additional material is required to align the design across seams, but how much depends on the carpet. In general, the larger the pattern, the more waste is created, while the roll width relative to the room size also has an impact. We calculate all this during our survey and include this additional cost within your estimate.
